James Lambton was showing off the OUCC blue colours at Milton Keynes Bowl on Thursday night. He kicked off what ended up as a great weekend of racing by taking continuing his strong summer form to take third to make his 2nd Cat licence. Congratulations James. Here’s his report from the race.

James

Once more unto the bowl, I was hoping to secure that ever elusive 2nd cat licence. Having placed 9th the previous week when I needed 5th, 6th was now good enough to seal the deal. The race went as a typical bowl race does: many attacks going, all brought back. However, with 20 mins to go a very strong Catford rider managed to get away and actually managed to hold on until the end, so chapeau to him! Back in the bunch, it was all together coming into the last lap, and I made my move coming into the corner at the bottom of the hill. I went through the corners as fast as I dared opening up a small gap which I held until the base of the final climb. I started my sprint so early, as I knew I had to, and had to fight my way around the outside of a chase group from the E/1/2 race which we had caught. It was a messy finish, but only 1 rider came around me, so I was 2nd from the bunch and 3rd overall, which gave me 7 points and enough for 2nd cat!
