The Oxfordshire Road Race League finished recently, so it’s a great time to recap an excellent season for the mighty OUCC! Despite cancellations and the long vac hampering our efforts, OUCC managed some brilliant rides over the course of the league.Pocket Rocket and aero connoisseur William Metcalf got us off to the perfect start at Dalton where he won the opening race (just don’t ask him about dive bombing). Despite a ridiculous number of punctures in the following races, Will still managed 9th in the overall Men’s league.

Floren Villanueva Scrafton was our best performer overall, getting a class 5th in the Women’s league; a particular highlight was 4th overall and 1st ORRL rider in the absolutely packed Cowley Condor’s race. Flo also embodied the OUCC spirit by kindly allowing me to borrow her pedals for the Stadhampton race, after I’d managed to break the ones Alexander had given me.Honourable mentions should go to Pedr and Izzy, who both got ORRL top 10s in their first season of road racing.

The incredibly handsome Jack Churchill‘s perennial tactic of doing nothing all race, just to wait for the sprint also finally worked out with 4th at Stadhampton and top ORRL rider. Even on a reduced calendar, OUCC had its best road racing season since 2018, and its 3rd best in the last decade.

Even though I may be a graduate now, I can’t wait for the club to build on this great season next year (and potentially compete for the overall team title’s like I know that we are capable of). Unfortunately, as a now-graduate, I can’t fulfil this position of ORRL liaison next year. So, if anyone fancies taking over please let either me or Adam know. If we want carry on in the league (which I vehemently believe we should) this is a vital position that needs to be filled. If anyone has any questions then also please don’t be afraid to ask.
